Are You Ready for the Retreat?

I know that I'm totally excited about the retreat!! Here is a copy of a handout you will get tomorrow in class. This is a picture of what the lodge looks like that we are staying in! I think I should use a few more exclamation points!!!!!!!! Don't forget about the Artist After Hours on Wednesday, 3-4.

Below is a list of items that you will need to bring with you and not bring with you. Please leave the address and phone number of the Silver Falls Conference Center with your parents so they know where you are. Remember there is no cell service.

VERY IMPORTANT: You are not going on a three week vacation. We are going overnight. PLEASE do not bring a huge suitcase with everything but the kitchen sink. Pack light and smart.

What you will need to bring

• Sketchbook
• Supply bags for art students with paintbrushes, pencils etc.
• Sleeping bag & pillow (the lodge does have bedding/pillows but some people may need to sleep on the floor.)
• Towel
• Something waterproof or water resistant, just in case it rains.
• Alarm clock and a watch (there is NO cell service, seriously)
• Camera
• A snack for at least 10 people (Saturday night, turn over snack to teacher when we get to the retreat.)
• Money for lunch on Sunday
• You will need to bring clothes for the AP Photo that you don’t mind getting trashed. Full of paint that may not come out, clay that will stick until you get home. We will have plastic bags for you to put your clothes in to take home.
• You need to bring some props for the picture. Beret, paint brushes, sponges, sculpture stuff, aprons, palettes, any thing artsy.
• Finally, it’s very important for you to find a quote from an artist. You will read this aloud at the induction ceremony Saturday night. Find a quote that you believe in, that means something to you as an artist. How do you feel about art? If you can’t find a quote from an artist that you like, make something up, but make it meaningful. It does not have to be long it just has to be personal. WRITE IT DOWN and bring it with you.
